Now where did I leave off..?

MAY 2009

Sorry. For family journaling purposes, I have to catch up.

My birthday's in May so in celebration it was 'movie May'. New movie, every weekend, opening weekend. We love movies.

Ange and I love Star Trek- grew up with it. Rob thinking we're idiots :)
(I obviously can't do the spok thing)

Annual bday celebration with neighbor friends

My little brother Daniel & Cassie got married

My parents

Siblings

Cade as the ringbearer

Kaia

Newlyweds

Zions National Park 3 days: 3 Hikes

Day 1:
Angel's Landing: 5 miles, 1500 ft elevation
(the tall rock behind us)
Paul, Ashley, Luke, Amber, Me (no rob-work), Brooke, Jonathan, Jeanette, Jordan

not quite the top but really high up

We had to use chains the last 1/2 mile to prevent falling to our death

go Brooke! (doesn't look like it but that's over an 1,000 ft drop behind her)

made it!

and look what the boys did (Paul Heapy)

Jonathan (I was seriously having a mini panic attack inside. If they tripped getting up or down, they would have gone over the edge)

Day 2:
Hidden Canyon: 2.2 miles trail, ~1 mile off trail into canyon, 1000 ft elevation
(shorter distance to elevation= steep and pretty much straight up entire way!)

Our trail (after some switchbacks)

It was an amazing trail carved out of the side of the mountain- absolutely beautiful!

Into the canyon we went!

Me and Jonathan

It was quite the exploration

we found cave drawings

the arch

It started getting a little more rigorous

We started getting creative since we didn't have proper equipment

Then decided we better turn back instead of hurting ourselves or getting stranded. It was hard to though, as we felt like we were on the verge of discovering the 'great valley' or something and that we'd be welcomed by the few who ventured that far.. we were getting carried away to say the least.

the way down was just as amazing

Day 3:
Orderville: 12 miles, back country, down the canyon, over, down, and under obstacles, out through the river

back country

down the ravine to the canyon

Brookie

Ashley and I kept making her husband walk behind us in case we were being tailed by a mountain lion or something. I kept looking up, once we got in the canyon, trying to spot one perched on the wall ready to pounce on me.

Entering canyon

And the obstacles began

We had to use rope to climb down and lower ourselves to a freezing cold pool of water.

Next Obstacle

We had to crawl under and through

3rd obstacle

Amber didn't want to get wet-what a good husband!

It was so pretty

4th obstacle was a log ladder thing we walked across and last was another little cliff into water with no way down. The boys were lowering me into it by rope, but the rope was wet so I just slid all the way down-pretty much free fall- into the water below that was luckily really deep. So everyone else just jumped it. Here was the damage (we were wondering if we were ever reaching the end so pictures were getting scarce)

Out through the river

This is why we had the sticks

We made it and we felt pretty dang tough- 12 miles from dawn to dusk

All in all a pretty rugged trip with tents, fires, campstove to cook on.. but it was one of the best trips I've been on. I loved it and can't wait to go again! My husband wants to send me solo again :).

May ended with me returning home and leaving my kids in Arizona for a week. It was tennis, pool, sleeping, etc.. I'm worried no other May will ever compare.

So hilarious that you can't do Spock fingers!

And oh my gosh, that hike looks amazing and I fear that I am too soft now to do anything like that!! You're my hero!

I love the wedding pictures! Daniel and Cassie are so cute and the pictures really are amazing.

No Rob in Zions??? I am shocked. I thought he would cancel anything to go camping :)
